What is the average cost of bee removal or swarm catch in Ontario

A basic bee removal project in Ontario project commences at $100.00 and runs to about $245.00. More complex jobs and depending on height for example can cost $300.00 to $850.00 and sometimes even as much as several thousand dollars ($1,000-$3,500.00). The project costs also depends on how complex and how much work needs to be done. The most expensive costs are associated to replacing or cutting out structures (such as drywall, beams, joist or roofing). And other times removing honeybees who’s hive could be very large ( 2’x3’x2′) or (3’x10′). It all depends on how long the hive has been in the structure but an average bee colony can make about 2 large dinner size dishes of honeycomb in about 2 to 2.5 days. Once they have nectar available they can ooze the fat from 4 ports on either side of their bodies.

Why Bee Rescue Isn’t Free most of the time?

Some people call and expect the service and removal to be free.

There is no public funding available for bee removal in Ontario or North America. Free removal services  is primarily done by good citizens who want bees to survive. If it is free usually the person or company will only spend a few minutes removing it, otherwise, it becomes a billable service call. And usually the queen is sought first and foremost. Once you have the queen in a queen cage then the majority of bees will follow her into the new box. Finding her in the wall , ceiling or joists is a very large task and almost impossible feat given an average hive will consist of 20-30,000 bees. other bees nest are about 50,000-60,000. Finding one bee in those numbers is extremely difficult almost impossible.

Bee Rescue/s  and Bee Removals contrary to belief actually costs money.  There are however, times when the beekeeper or a hobbyist can remove the bees nest (usually honeybees swarm) or a swarm of bees free of charge (I can’t vouch for this 100% but if the removal only takes a few minutes in my experience-are free of charge. If the removal takes more time or even hrs to complete then it is usually becomes a billable call. Please keep in mind that most professional pest control or beekeepers carry liability insurance and there is always cost of doing business as it cost them money to run the operations. Companies need to keep liability insurance, car insurance, hydro, rent , wages, tools , clothing , equipment  etc. just like any other company.

When removing other bees such as Honeybees, Yellow Jackets, Bumblebees, Carpenter bees, Mud daubers, or Hornets such as Bald-Headed Hornet the work involved to remove them is usually very extensive and sometimes takes 2 or 3 days. More specifically ceilings, floors, gables, soffit, siding, joists, beams etc. have to be either opened or removed in order to get the bees nest. Sometimes they are located deeper inside the home or inside venting or return vents, old furnaces, old chimneys, or old wooden walls in which case very extensive work is required.   In some cases the  bees are located 20-30 feet in a tree, or 3rd story gable or in the  hi sloped roof chimney or just outside the front or back door above it and inside the upper part of the porch roof.

HoneyHoney is pretty much the only company in Ontario who will attempt to remove All bee species naturally without chemicals or killing or harming them in any way whatsoever.

Most others will kill the bees or use harsh chemicals to get rid of them. Very often we get called for service to remove the bees ( which includes honeybees, yellow jackets, carpenter bees, Bumblebees, etc.) and many people have the notion that such a service is free. Actually there are times when do our services for reduced rates, sometimes for free  but mostly when we have to get our tools out the money clock starts. Unless it is quick removal perhaps honeybees hanging from a tree branch most companies will charge for their services.

Always use a beekeeper who has honeybees of their own, they understand the value to keeping them alive and saving as many bees as possible in order to effect a sustainable food supply in Ontario.

Bees have been in our family for 3 generations and we started out in Latvia probably the smallest nation in the  world and more importantly is that beekeepers truly understand the value of bees, eating natural foods through organic farming which the bees pollinate.
