Removing bees can be very tricky business and its not something you ought to do on your own. Yes spraying works but the active agent is usually a “nerve agent” so always use caution when spraying harsh chemicals and follow the warning labels on the can. Once a beehive is sprayed and survive they move deeper into the house which makes the job much more difficult. If the homeowner blocks the entrance the bees will find another route out-that route may be through the walls, bedrooms or other spaces you don;t want them in.
Bee Removal without Chemicals
“Knockdown insecticides are neurotoxins. Pyrethroids and pyrethrins, the active ingredient of most wasp sprays, cause knockdown quickly by affecting the sodium channels of insect nerves, holding them open. … For wasp spray, speed is critical, as you’ll want the wasps down before they can sting you, however if a professional has a bee-suit then using chemicals may not be so critical as the active agents affects our nervous system.
The fall time is specially critical to get ride of the wasps as they usually bees nest loads up with about 20-50 new queens to be which when they emerge can skater to various locations in the house. They usually go into the ground in the fall but we have seen they stay in the house all year round because of the warm they get from a heated room, chimney or wall. Capturing them quickly is key but as soon as one gets near the nest, or shakes the tree branches or joists the vibration sounds the attack alarm in the nest and voila hundreds of bees can dive-bomb on you! The worst of these bees is the bald faced hornet which are extremely aggressive so when approaching these bees use all precautions.
As a professional I get stung by bees almost daily however, I have built up an immunity over the years of being in this business. Many times I am removing the bees without a bee suit or veil and yes I do get stung daily so each person needs to take caution when dealing with this wild insect.
